Gov. Gregoire appoints new chair of Indeterminate Sentence Review Board

OLYMPIA � Gov. Chris Gregoire today announced the appointment of Lynne DeLano as the chair of the state�s Indeterminate Sentence Review Board. DeLano currently works at the Washington State Department of Corrections, where she develops policies, procedures and training courses to ensure implementation of the Prison Rape Elimination Act.

�Lynne brings a wealth of criminal-justice knowledge to this role,� Gregoire said. �Her credentials are impressive � from across the nation and world. Her knowledge of, as well as her passion for ensuring fairness will serve all Washingtonians well.�

Needless to say, I'm honored,� DeLano said. �I�m looking forward to serving on the ISRB and being part of an important component of the criminal justice system that seeks to balance certain offenders requests for a second chance with community safety and victim rights."

DeLano had been serving as Correction�s assistant deputy secretary from 1999-2006 when she left the state to volunteer with the Peace Corps in Romania. Prior to joining Corrections, DeLano taught college-level criminal justice courses at universities in Italy and Turkey.

DeLano spent nearly two decades working for South Dakota�s criminal justice system, starting out as a social worker and correctional officer. She later served as superintendent for two correctional facilities in South Dakota before being named acting warden of the South Dakota State Penitentiary. In 1989, DeLano was appointed secretary of the South Dakota Department of Corrections, a position she held until 1995.

DeLano earned a bachelor�s degree in child development from the University of California-Davis before earning a master�s degree in public administration at the University of South Dakota.

DeLano�s appointment is effective Jan. 1st. Her salary will be $90,000.
