Gov. Gregoire�s statement on passage of transportation budget

OLYMPIA � Gov. Chris Gregoire released the following statement today on final passage of the 2009�11 transportation budget and funding for state Route 520:

�The passage of the transportation budget will position us to deliver the most significant transportation construction program in our state�s history. Our state legislators, in passing this budget, have found a path to resolving key transportation safety and commerce issues when the entire country is experiencing economic hardship.

�I applaud the House and Senate Transportation committees for their commitment to Washington�s economy by supporting the budget, SR 520 project and replacement of the Alaskan Way Viaduct. Together, these projects will improve our immediate transportation needs as well as build a statewide transportation system to move us into the 21st century.

�For transportation, this has to be the most significant legislative session in history. What we did is truly monumental not just for the most-populated part of this state but for Washington�s economic future as a whole.�
