Gov. Gregoire�s statement on Senate approval for Alaskan Way Viaduct replacement

OLYMPIA � Gov. Chris Gregoire released the following statement today on Senate�s final passage of legislation for the Alaskan Way Viaduct replacement:

�We are on the way to one of the most important transportation years in Washington�s history. I thank the transportation committee chairperson, Senator Mary Margaret Haugen, and Senate Majority Leader Lisa Brown for their management of this spirited debate.

�Members of the Senate and the House of Representatives approving a very complex project is a remarkable accomplishment. The deep bored tunnel replacement will create jobs, help us emerge from this recession stronger and prepare our state for a 21st economy.�
