Governor Gregoire announces boards and commissions

OLYMPIA � Gov. Chris Gregoire today announced appointments to the following boards and commissions:

Board of Boiler Rules:

Steven Prideaux of Puyallup has been reappointed to a term effective Aug. 23, 2008, ending Aug. 22, 2012. Prideaux is a chief engineer at Good Samaritan Hospital. He is a member of the American Society of Hospital Engineers and the Washington State Society of Hospital Engineers.

The board formulates rules and regulations for the safe and proper construction, installation, use, operation and repair of boilers and pressure vessels.


Emergency Medical Services/Trauma Care Steering Committee:

Kathleen Jobe of Seattle has been reappointed to a term effective Aug. 16, 2008, ending Aug. 15, 2011. Jobe is an associate professor of medicine and head of the Division of Emergency Medicine at the University of Washington. She serves as a fellow and as president of the Washington State Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians. She is also a fellow at the American College of Emergency Physicians, and a member of the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine and the Washington State Medical Society.

Lori Morgan of Tacoma has been reappointed to a term effective Aug. 16, 2008, ending Aug. 15, 2011. Morgan is the medical director of Tacoma Trauma Trust. She is the chair of the West Region Quality Improvement Forum and a member of the Washington State Trauma Medical Directors Consortium.

The committee reviews the requirements for pre-hospital emergency and ambulance services throughout the state and the proposed administrative rules relating to emergency medical services. The board also reviews regional emergency management plans and recommends changes, as well as advises on rules for poison information centers.


Employee Retirement Benefits Board:

Brian Talbott of Randle has been reappointed to a term effective Aug. 12, 2008, ending June 30, 2011. Talbott is the superintendent of the White Pass School District. He is a member of the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction�s Curriculum Advisory Review Committee, United Schools Insurance Program Board of Directors and Centralia College East Board of Trustees.

Carol Jensen of Puyallup has been appointed to a term effective Aug. 12, 2008, ending June 30, 2011. Jensen is retired after working for 29 years as the accounts payable lead for the Bethel School District. She has served as a member of the Bethel School District Levy Committee.

The board pre-selects options for members to choose from for self-directed investment, selects optional benefit payment schedules available to members and survivors, and selects investment options for the deferred compensation program.


Energy Northwest:

Dave Remington of Spokane has been reappointed to a term effective Aug. 13, 2008, ending June 30, 2012. Remington retired from the position of senior vice president and chief financial officer of Itron, Inc. He serves on the board of the Mobius Science Center.

Energy Northwest�s executive board sets the policies that govern the operations of the organization.


Governor�s Council on Substance Abuse:

Janice Ellis of Everett has been reappointed to a term effective Aug. 13, 2008, ending Aug. 3, 2011. Ellis is the Snohomish County prosecuting attorney. She is a member of the Dawson Place Child Advocacy Center Steering Committee, YMCA of Snohomish County Board of Trustees, Deaconess Children�s Services Board of Directors and Snohomish Regional Drug Task Force Executive Board.

The council advises the governor on issues and programs relating to substance abuse. The council also assists with implementing strategies to support community efforts to reduce substance abuse, and promotes public awareness and education.


Marine Employees� Commission:

John Cox of Seattle has been appointed to a term effective Aug. 12, 2008, ending June 15, 2012. Cox is the president of The Maritime Group, Inc. He is a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers and the Canadian Institute of Marine Engineers. Cox is also the former president of the Northwest Cruise Ship Association and the Alaska Steamship Association.

John Swanson of Bellevue has been reappointed to a term effective Aug. 12, 2008, ending June 15, 2013.

The commission reviews all complaints, grievances and disputes between labor and management arising from the operation of the ferry system. The commission also provides for impasse mediation, conducts fact finding and provides salary surveys.


Oil Spill Advisory Council:

Charles Sheldon of Seattle has been appointed to a term effective Aug. 12, 2008, ending Aug. 2, 2011. Sheldon is managing director of the Port of Seattle�s Seaport Division. He was previously involved with the Project Management Institute�s Project Management Professional program and was a Kepner-Tregoe Program Leader for Project Management & Problem Solving and Decision Making.

Jeffrey Shaw of Ferndale has been appointed to a term effective Aug. 12, 2008, ending Aug. 2, 2012. Shaw is the marine superintendent of Polar Tankers, Inc. He is an active member in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.

The primary purpose of the council is to maintain the state�s vigilance in, by ensuring an emphasis on, the prevention of oil spills to marine waters.


Washington State Dental Quality Assurance Commission:

Padmaraj Angolkar of Bellevue has been reappointed to a term effective Aug. 14, 2008, ending June 30, 2012. Angolkar is a privately practicing orthodontist. He is a member of the Washington State Dental Association, American Orthodontic Association, Pacific Coast Orthodontist Association and Seattle-King County Dental Society.

Todd Cooper of Kennewick has been appointed to a term effective Aug. 14, 2008, ending June 30, 2012. Cooper is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon at Columbia Basin Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is a diplomate for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and for the National Dental Board of Anesthesia. He is also a fellow at the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the American Society of Dental Anesthesia.

The commission regulates the competency and quality of dental professionals by establishing, monitoring and enforcing consistent standards of practice, continuing competency mechanisms and discipline.


Washington Technology Center Board of Directors:

Arlan Norman of Bellevue has been reappointed to a term effective Aug. 13, 2008, ending June 11, 2010. Norman is the dean of the College of Sciences and Technology at Western Washington University. He is a member of the American Chemical Society and has served on the advisory board for its Petroleum Research Fund.

Dennis Dyck of Spokane has been reappointed to a term effective Aug. 13, 2008, ending June 11, 2010. Dyck is the vice chancellor of research, director of the Health, Research & Education Center and professor at Washington State University Spokane. He is a member of the Northwest Association for Biomedical Research Board.

Harold Dengerink of Vancouver has been reappointed to a term effective Aug. 13, 2008, ending June 11, 2009. Dengerink is the chancellor of Washington State University Vancouver. He is the co-chair of the Columbia River Crossing Task Force, and a member of the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce and the Columbia River Economic Development Council Board of Directors.

Johannes Koch of Seattle has been reappointed to a term effective Aug. 13, 2008, ending June 11, 2010. Koch is an independent consultant for early-stage medical device and biotechnology companies. He also has a part-time gastroenterology practice at Northwest Hospital and a clinical appointment at the University of Washington.

John Clemens of Camas has been reappointed to a term effective Aug. 13, 2008, ending June 11, 2011. Clemens has 30 years of experience in electronics research. In 2003, he retired as president and CEO of Sharp Laboratories of America. He is a member of the board of advisors for Washington State University Vancouver, board of advisors of the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science at Portland State University, and the Business Development Committee for Portland State University.

John Eliassen of Otis Orchards has been reappointed to a term effective Aug. 13, 2008, ending June 11, 2011. Eliassen is the managing director of Terrapin Capital Group LLC. He was a founding board member of the Northwest Energy Technology Collaborative, and serves on the boards of Itron Corp., Red Lion Hotels and IT Lifeline.

Matthew O�Donnell of Seattle has been appointed to a term effective Aug. 13, 2008, ending June 11, 2011. O�Donnell is the Jungers Dean of Engineering at the University of Washington. He is a fellow at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc., and the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering.

Michael Bisesi of Seattle has been reappointed to a term effective Aug. 13, 2008, ending June 11, 2011. Bisesi is the director for the Center for Nonprofit and Social Enterprise Management at Seattle University. He serves on the boards of the Workforce Development Council of Seattle-King County and the Executive Alliance.

Michael Cockrill of Seattle has been reappointed to a term effective Aug. 13, 2008, ending June 11, 2010. Cockrill has most recently served as chief technical officer and vice president of product development for Mixxer.

Mike Schwenk of Richland has been appointed to a term effective Aug. 13, 2008, ending June 11, 2010. Schwenk is the director of the technology department at Battelle. He has served on many boards in his community, for Washington State University and for professional organizations.

Paul Hutton of Issaquah has been reappointed to a term effective Aug. 13, 2008, ending June 11, 2011. Hutton is president and co-founder of Thought Engineering. He is the chair of the advisory board to the National Science Foundation�s National Workforce Center for Emerging Technologies and a member of the AeA Higher Education Task Force. He has served on the Washington State Board for Technical and Community Colleges.

Ralph Cavalieri of Pullman has been reappointed to a term effective Aug. 13, 2008, ending June 11, 2009. Cavalieri is the associate dean for research at the College of Agricultural, Human and Natural Resource Sciences and the director of the Agricultural Research Center at Washington State University. He is a member of the Department of Energy�s Biomass Research and Development Technical Advisory Committee, board of directors of the Washington State University Research Foundation and board of the Washington Technology Center.

Robin Halliday of Bellingham has been reappointed to a term effective Aug. 13, 2008, ending June 11, 2011. Halliday is retired and has more than 25 years of senior management and project management experience with the DIS Corporation. She serves as president of the Technology Alliance Group and the Bellingham Whatcom County Public Facilities District.

Roger Gulrajani of Medina has been reappointed to a term effective Aug. 13, 2008, ending June 11, 2009. Gulrajani is a senior director at Microsoft�s Windows Core Operating System Division. He has more than 20 years of experience in the technology industry.

The board provides a collaborative effort among the state�s universities, private industry and government in performing and commercializing research on a statewide basis to benefit the economic vitality of Washington.
