Gov. Gregoires statement on Microsofts Partners in Learning initiative

For Immediate Release: February 23, 2009

OLYMPIA Gov. Chris Gregoire released the following statement on Microsofts Partners in Learning initiative:

While in Washington D.C., I had the opportunity to present Microsoft with the National Governors Association award recognizing their incredible work in education through the Partners in Learning initiative. Microsoft continues to be a major force for good in our communities, and this is another great example.

Microsofts Partners in Learning initiative reflects the companys long-term commitment to quality education through innovative uses of technology all to help teachers and students succeed to their fullest potential.

The initiative stresses the value of aligning government, education, and business expertise in critical conversations to support education reforms specific to a state. This public-private partnership model has provided $35 million in the United States for the program, as well as funded full time, executive-level positions to work with state teams throughout the life of each project.

I want to thank Microsoft leadership for its commitment to long term education and personal development goals. This investment is truly commendable and I look forward to working with Microsoft to ensure the success of this initiative.
