Gov. Gregoire�s statement on unemployment numbers

OLYMPIA � Gov. Chris Gregoire today released the following statement on the state jobless rate:

�Today�s news that the state�s jobless rate increased to 7.1 percent is another indication that the national economic recession continues to take a toll on Washington businesses and families. The unemployment rate gives us even more reason to take quick action on federal and state plans to create jobs to help struggling families.

�Programs such as my Washington Jobs Now plan will help jump-start Washington�s economy through targeted investments in job creation and other economic stimulus measures. Along with anticipated federal action, these state investments provide a short-term economic boost while laying the groundwork for Washington�s future as people get back to work.�
