Gov. Gregoires statement on House approval of an economic stabilization plan

For Immediate Release: October 3, 2008

OLYMPIA Gov. Chris Gregoire today issued the following statement on the U.S. House of Representatives approval of an economic stabilization plan:

Todays bipartisan approval of a rescue plan by the U.S. House of Representatives is appropriate and welcomed. Many Washington families and businesses are working harder to meet the rising costs of health care, food and fuel during a period of national economic instability. The stabilization plan, while not perfect, will help families and businesses survive by easing access to credit for payroll purposes as well as for college, home and car loans.

All along we have expected this action to require accountability for corporations and executives, and economic security for those on Main Street. It appears the plan passed by the Senate and House and signed by the president does just that. I urge the federal government to ensure the American people get that accountability from here forward.
