Gov. Christine Gregoire appoints agency directors, DC staff

OLYMPIA � June 10, 2005 � Gov. Christine Gregoire today named:

Rosalund Jenkins director of the African American Affairs Commission. The commission develops public policy recommendations to improve government services delivery to the African-American community. Jenkins will assume her new role on June 22, 2005.

Jenkins� background includes serving as a special assistant to Governors Booth Gardner and Mike Lowry, as a writer for the House of Representatives Democratic caucus, and as a reporter for an African-American weekly newspaper. She also has done policy research and development for the Commission on African-American Affairs and for various community service organizations.

Jenkins most recently served as the state Department of Employment Security�s marketing director where she received the Governor�s Distinguished Management Leadership Award in 2001. Jenkins holds a master�s in public administration from The Evergreen State College.

Richard C. Sweeney executive director of the State Board of Accountancy. The board regulates Certified Public Accountants. Sweeney will assume his new role on July 1, 2005.

Sweeney is a certified public accountant. He served as State Auditor Brian Sonntag�s quality control director for several years and currently served as Sonntag�s special assistant for regulatory affairs. Sweeney holds an masters in business administration from Washington State University.

Douglas Clapp director of the state�s Washington, D.C. office. Clapp will serve as Gov. Gregoire�s representative in the nation�s capital. He will handle federal policy development and coordinate legislative issues for the state. He will assume his new role on July 1, 2005.

Clapp has served as a legislative assistant to Sen. Patty Murray for six years. Previously he worked for Congressman Mike Kreidler and the Washington State House Appropriations Committee. He is a graduate of the University of Washington and American University�s School of Law.
