Gov. Gregoire announces boards and commissions appointments

OLYMPIA � Gov. Chris Gregoire today announced appointments to the following boards and commissions:

Arts Commission:

John Fraire of Pullman has been appointed to a term effective Sept. 11, 2008, ending July 28, 2011. Fraire is vice president for enrollment management at Washington State University. He is also a consultant for the Gates Millennium Scholarship Program, founder and past executive director of New Latino Visions Theatre Company, and former member of the Kalamazoo Area Academic Achievement Program Board of Directors.

The commission promotes the growth and development of the arts in the state, advises state agencies and officials on matters pertaining to the arts, and administers appropriations set aside for acquiring works of art for public buildings.



Child Support Schedule Workgroup:

Adina Robinson of Seattle has been appointed to a term effective Sept. 11, 2008, ending June 30, 2009. Robinson is a grants and contracts administrator at the University of Washington Office of Sponsored Programs. She volunteers with the Northwest Women�s Law Center and the International Rescue Committee in Seattle.

The work group reviews and makes recommendations to the Legislature and the governor on the child support guidelines in Washington state.



Community Economic Revitalization Board:

Michael Echanove of Palouse has been reappointed to a term effective Sept. 3, 2008, ending Sept. 2, 2011. Echanove is the mayor of Palouse. He is a member of the Palouse Chamber of Commerce and the Citizens Advisory Group for the Palouse Basin Aquifer Committee.

Drew Hansen of Bainbridge Island has been reappointed to a term effective Sept. 3, 2008, ending Sept. 2, 2011. Hansen is a lawyer and partner at Susan Godfrey LLP. He is a member of the Olympic College Foundation Board.

The board�s objectives are to strengthen the economy in areas of the state that have experienced high unemployment rates or below-average economic growth. The board also encourages economic diversification in the state and provides incentives for expansion of employment opportunities.



Commute Trip Reduction Board:

Lynn Frosch of Bellevue has been appointed to a term effective Sept. 2, 2008, ending June 25, 2013. Frosch is the Puget Sound Transportation Services manager for the Microsoft Corporation. She volunteers as a board member of Eastside Runners.

The board establishes guidelines for commute trip reduction plans.



Massage Examining Board:

Nancy Zussy Allen of Olympia has been appointed to a term effective Sept. 8, 2008, ending Sept. 7, 2012. Prior to becoming a self-employed massage practitioner in 2003, Allen was the Washington State librarian. She has been a member of the Thurston County Mental Health Board, Washington Library Association Legal Planning Committee and the Chief Officers of State Library Agencies.

The board examines candidates seeking a license and registration, and recommends and adopts rules and regulations for administering the regulatory law. The board also defines, evaluates, approves and designates the schools, programs and apprenticeship programs from which graduation will be accepted as proof of an applicant�s eligibility to take the licensing examination.



Prescription Drug Assistance Foundation Board of Directors:

Chris Phillips of Bellingham has been appointed to a term effective Sept. 8, 2008, ending Sept. 15, 2010. Phillips is the director for community affairs at St. Joseph Hospital. He is a member of the Public Health Advisory Board of Bellingham and the Port of Bellingham Ethics Committee.

The Prescription Drug Assistance Foundation is a not-for-profit organization designed to assist qualified uninsured individuals in obtaining prescription drugs at little or no cost.



Select Committee on Pension Policy:

Don Carlson of Olympia has been appointed to a term effective Aug. 22, 2008, ending June 30, 2011. Carlson is a lobbyist for the Washington State School Retirees� Association. He is a former state senator and representative from Vancouver, and was a teacher for more than 30 years for Vancouver Public Schools.

The Select Committee on Pension Policy studies pension issues, develops pension policies for public employees in state retirement systems and makes recommendations to the Legislature.



State School for the Blind Board of Trustees:

Stephen Rainey of Vancouver has been reappointed to a term effective Sept. 8, 2008, ending July 1, 2013. Rainey is a fish passage engineer at GEI Consultants.

Sherry Perry of Port Ludlow has been reappointed to a term effective Sept. 8, 2008, ending July 1, 2013. Perry is retired, having most recently worked as a health services consultant. She serves on the board of directors for Jefferson County�s Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Program and the Jefferson County Sheriff�s Foundation.

The board serves the educational needs of visually impaired and blind students across Washington. It develops comprehensive curricula to maximize and develop the skills students need to live, work and be independent citizens.



Washington Commission for National and Community Service:

Liz Vivian of Seattle has been appointed to a term effective Sept. 2, 2008, ending Feb. 15, 2009. Vivian is senior manager of global corporate citizenship at The Boeing Company. She has been a member of Seattle Public Schools� Community Advisory Committee on School Facilities and Programs, Leadership Tomorrow�s Curriculum Committee, Seattle City Club Forum Committee and Executive Alliance Board of Directors.

The commission has a long history of helping bring about change in communities through service activities. The commission implements national service initiatives, provides training and technical assistance, evaluates programs and leverages federal dollars with local, state and private sector resources.
