Gov. Gregoire announces Washington Military Department emergency management grants

For Immediate Release: September 23, 2008

OLYMPIA Gov. Chris Gregoire announced today that 12 Washington counties will receive a total of $174,449 in emergency management grants from the Washington Military Department.

These grants will assist our states smaller counties as they plan and prepare for emergencies, Gregoire said. I commend the Military Departments prudent and farsighted use of the 2008 federal Emergency Management Performance Grant funds designed for this important purpose.

The grants will be used primarily for the counties to update emergency management plans and will not require any local matching funds. They are in addition to the federal EMPG funds already distributed this year to county emergency management agencies.

The funds are directed toward emergency management jurisdictions with some of the greatest needs in the state, said Jim Mullen, director of the Washington Emergency Management Division of the Military Department.

The implementation period for the grants will be 12 months following Sept. 30. The funds will be distributed as follows:

Adams County, $17,347
Columbia County, $24,661
Grant County, $13,849
Island County, $3,207
Jefferson County, $15,962
Okanogan County, $8,969
Pacific County, $14,741
Pend Oreille County, $1,595
San Juan County, $10,160
