EXECUTIVE ORDER  09-27-68

WHEREAS, I am informed that the Vice President of the United States on September 28, 1968 will in person participate in the public dedication of the John Day Lock and Dam located near Walla Walla, Washington on property possessed by the federal government;

WHEREAS, the John Day Dam dedication committee in coordination with the U.S. Secret Service and state and local agencies has requested of me the assignment of a small contingent of militia troops to supplement the existing police force assembled to protect the life and person of the Vice President and his party during the period of said public dedication;

AND WHEREAS, the State of Washington has under law a responsibility to preserve law and order on such federal lands;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Daniel J. Evans, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Washington, by virtue of authority vested in me by law as set forth in Chapter 38-08 RCW section .040 and .060, do hereby direct the Adjutant General of the State of Washington to place in the active service of the State such troops as may be reasonably necessary to aid and assist the U.S. Secret Service, state and local authorities in the protection of life and person during the period of the above event.
