People who commit fraud against L&I’s workers’ compensation system cost taxpayers money and put those who do the right thing at a competitive disadvantage. That’s why the Department of Labor & Industries is working hard to combat fraud. L&I’s latest initiative is to launch a blog to attract attention to the problem and encourage more people to tip L&I off to fraudulent activities. You can now follow L&I’s work to combat fraud on the new blog called “Nailed.”

One of L&I’s most important sources of information about fraud comes from people like you who care about making sure the state workers’ comp system is not being ripped off. People with fraud tips can call L&I at 1-888-811-5974.

L&I works extensively with state and federal law enforcement, and other regulatory agencies to detect and prosecute individuals committing workers’ comp fraud, contractors failing to register with the state, and businesses that wrongly classify workers to cheat on insurance premiums. Some investigations lead to criminal prosecution.

People tend to think fraud only involves workers cheating the workers’ comp system. But in reality, millions of dollars are lost when employers, medical providers and contractors commit fraud.  “Nailed” is a place where you can get information on major fraud convictions, watch surveillance video from investigations, and find links to other fraud-related news coverage.

The blog will show how L&I’s Fraud Compliance and Prevention Program is fighting fraud and dealing with people who take advantage of the system. Check out “Nailed” at Nailed.Lni.wa.gov or on a link from the agency’s homepage, Lni.wa.gov. And don’t forget to leave a comment while you’re there, telling L&I what you think or how the blog can be improved.
