Making things easier can make them better. That’s the wisdom behind the work of the Governor’s Office of Regulatory Assistance. And its efforts are paying off for groups across Washington.

Thanks to collaboration among local, state and federal agencies, applying for a Joint Aquatic Resources Permit Application will be smoother, faster and cheaper.

The JARPA is used by everyone who conducts projects — big or small — in or near the water. This includes developers, homeowners, consultants and government agencies. Instead of filling out up to a half dozen applications, proponents now complete just one form for most projects.

In the past, about half of all applications were returned due to incomplete information. This meant that projects lost money as well as valuable time.

The new 2009 application is available at www.epermitting.wa.gov
