More than 300,000 people visit our Capitol each year to learn about the rich history of state government and enjoy our monuments, memorials and beautiful grounds. Yet as higher fuel prices have people cutting back on travel, the Department of General Administration is bringing the Capitol to them.

A new online virtual tour of the Capitol creates opportunities for Washington citizens - and people everywhere - to visit our Capitol no matter where they live. Photos accompany historical information on the various rooms, furnishings, monuments, offices of elected officials and chambers of the House and Senate.

Schoolchildren and their teachers are among the biggest groups of Capitol visitors. The virtual tour supplements educational curricula with details about the Capitol and state government. It's information that can enrich an eventual in-person visit, too.

General Administration is responsible for the care and maintenance of the Capitol grounds, and our staff takes great pride in their work. The virtual tour is another way we reach out to citizens throughout Washington and beyond so that they can share in Washington's great tradition. We invite you to take a virtual tour of the Capitol at http://www.ga.wa.gov/visitor/virtualtour/main.html.
