Washington's veterans deserve both respect and the assistance they need to rejoin the state's work force. With help from my husband, First Mike, Washington was one of the first states to adopt "Helmets to Hardhats," a unique apprenticeship program that matches returning veterans with job training programs.

I am honored to be joined by the leadership of the Seattle/King County Building and Construction Trades Council as we recognize the great success of "Helmets to Hardhats."

The Washington Department of Veterans Affairs and the Washington State Building and Construction Trades Council are working hard together on behalf of the brave men and women who have served our country. Their efforts will help ensure that our state's military personnel have the tools and resources to successfully transition from the armed forces to civilian employment in the building and construction trades.
