When you turn on a faucet, you probably take it for granted that you’ll get clear, refreshing water from your tap. And that’s a good thing, because it means your water supplier has been consistently providing you with safe, reliable drinking water.

What you may not recognize is that it takes thousands of people working around the clock to make sure our state’s drinking water is safe.

Gov. Gregoire has proclaimed May 4-10 as “Drinking Water Week” in Washington. This yearly celebration is an opportunity for water professionals and those of us they serve to join together to recognize the role water plays in our daily lives.

Water is essential. It creates jobs, attracts industry and investment, and provides for our health and welfare in ways ranging from preventing disease to putting out fires. So, help us celebrate! Raise your glass and drink in the goodness of pure Washington tap water.

During Drinking Water Week, we at the Department of Health are recognizing a water company and four individuals who have gone the extra mile to be sure their communities have safe and reliable drinking water. Read about the winners and to learn more about Drinking Water Week.
