Record Creator: | Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce |
Description: | This scrapbook was created by the Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce in 1930 to document their proposal for a disabled soldiers’ home near Mount Vernon. The proposed site was to be at Township 34N, Range 3E, Sections 1 and 2, but the home was never built. There are 59 indexed pages in this scrapbook. The cover measures 14.5 x 12.5 inches, and each page measures 14 x 11 inches. Pages include correspondence and documents regarding the proposal, and photographs and maps of the area from 1925 to 1930. Most images were taken by Asahel Curtis.
The scrapbook can be browsed page by page. Pages are numbered as they fall in the scrapbook (ex: “p0003” is page 3 of the scrapbook). Some pages include overlapping or folded items. In these cases, the pages are imaged so that each item can be seen. Items on a page are named a, b, c, and so on (ex: “p0003_a” is item a on page 3 of the scrapbook). Some items include multiple pages, such as brochures, booklets, and periodicals. These items are given an item name, followed by a page number (ex: “p0003_a_08” is page 8 of item a on page 3 of the scrapbook). |
