Introduction The Slovak Cemetery index lists individuals interred at the Slovak Cemetery in Roslyn, WA (Kittitas County). See photos. It is one of 27 identified burial places in Roslyn, WA. Index data was compiled by Maggie Rail, a member of the Washington State Cemetery Association, who has transcribed over 400 cemeteries since 1993.

Notes from transcriber Maggie Rail, October 2001:
To reach the Slovak Cemetery, drive west on Pennsylvania Ave to Memorial Rd where you take a left. Stay on this road around the corner to the right. It will be the second to last cemetery on the south side of the road between the New Knights of Pythias and I.O.O.F Cemeteries. Lat: 47° 13' 10"N, Lon: 121° 00' 08"W T20N R15E Sec 17. See map.

Entries which say no marker came from National Slovak Society Records, of September 1988. I noticed when their record was one I had from the markers, the birth date was always one year later or earlier than on the stone, plus the man and wife were often born the same year in their records.

The Slovak people came from a region called Slovakia, which is to the southeast of Moravia and closely related to the Czechs or Bohemians. The lodge was a strong group when they arrived in Roslyn, but as the descendants grew older they were not as interested in the lodge or cemetery, thus there is no lodge at the present time.

This is another cemetery with native language used on several of the older headstones. Albert Bendzak took responsibility for the Slovak Cemetery following the death of his father, who was caretaker before him. Albert was working there on the day of his death in 2004 at the age of 89yr. The new caretaker is now Mr. Dick Watts.

I surveyed this cemetery on Aug 19, 2001, using pencil and pad, plus my digital camera. Transcribed Oct 03, 2001, last edited Apr 20, 2009.
