Although there have been a number of institutional celebrations of Archives Week or Month in Washington since it was officially established in 1989, the first-ever statewide celebration was organized in 2007 with the formation of a Washington State Archives Month Coordinating Committee. This committee is sponsored by the
Washington State Historical Records Advisory Board (WSHRAB) and the
Washington State Archives, with support from the
National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) and
National Archives and Records Administration, Pacific Alaska Region.
The Archive Month Coordinating Committee began work in July 2010 with representatives of institutions and organizations from throughout Washington. The Coordinating Committee created a
poster, updated the website,
and is offering free Basics of Archives workshops.
