1851 Lewis County 
Introduction:
The Oregon Territorial Legislature created Lewis County on December 19, 1845. It is named in honor of Meriwether Lewis.

This census lists the earliest American settlers in present-day Washington.

There are 199 names are listed on the census.

Judging from the writing, there were several enumerators. It also appears the census was rewritten with the settlers’ names in alphabetical order. We do not know why this was done.
