1883 Mason County Census 
Introduction:
The Washington Territorial Legislature created Mason County on March 9, 1854. Originally named, Sawamish, after the local Indian tribe, the county’s name changed in 1864 to honor Charles Mason, the first Secretary of Washington Territory.
