Governor Gregoire Appoints Commissioner Weiss to Snohomish County Superior Court

OLYMPIA � Governor Chris Gregoire today announced the appointment of Commissioner Bruce Weiss of Everett to the Snohomish County Superior Court. Commissioner Weiss will fill the newly created 15th position on the Snohomish County Superior Court.

�Commissioner Bruce Weiss has heard hundreds of cases and worked in Snohomish County for over two decades. He is a fair and thoughtful jurist and will serve the people of Snohomish County well,� said Governor Gregoire.

�We have very talented judges in Snohomish County. Bruce Weiss�s experience in family law and as a Superior Court Commissioner will further enhance the caliber of our Bench,� said Janice Ellis, Snohomish County Prosecuting Attorney. �Bruce is well-regarded for his work ethic, his good listening skills, his respectful demeanor and his no-nonsense rulings. The people of Snohomish County will be well-served by Governor Gregoire�s appointment.�

Commissioner Weiss, 46, has been a court commissioner for the Snohomish County Superior Court since 2005, where he has sat on cases involving mental health, truancy, family law, ex-parte, at-risk youth, domestic violence, anti-harassment, juvenile offenders, paternity, estate and probate.

Weiss was counsel for the Snohomish County Volunteer Guardian Ad Litem program from 2000 to 2005 and, prior to that, ran his own firm, the Law Offices of Bruce I. Weiss. From 1992 to 2002, he served as a pro tem court commissioner in the Snohomish County Superior Court and has served as a pro tem judge for district court. He served as a contract prosecuting attorney for the City of Everett from 1990 to 1998 and as a contract attorney for Snohomish County from 1999 to 2001.

Said Weiss, �I am deeply honored to be selected by Governor Gregoire for this position. I will make the Governor and the citizens of Snohomish County proud by deciding cases in the same fair and impartial manner as I did while serving as Court Commissioner.�

Weiss was an adjunct professor in the paralegal program at Edmonds Community College from 1995 to 1998 and a member of the adjunct faculty at City University�s paralegal program from 1990 to 1995. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Indiana School of Business and his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Montana�s School of Law. He currently resides in Everett with his wife Kellie. They have three children and a grandchild.
