For the best search results, search by parents’ names. Search by either last name, first and last name, or just the first letter of the last name. Please note mother’s last name will be her maiden name. Learn about the documentation of birth records in Washington and what information is found in a birth register or birth return by selecting the tab that says "About this Collection” here The Washington Territorial Legislature created Yakima County on January 21, 1865 from Ferguson County, which is no longer in existence and, it was named in honor of the Yakima Native American tribe and means “black bear.” The county is located in the south central part of the state.
