| Introduction |
The United States Census of 1860 is the first federal census since the creation of Washington Territory in 1853. Enumerators were given five months, starting on June 1, 1860, to travel around the expansive territory and collect census information. The completed sheets were then sent to the United States Census Bureau. However, in several instances, County Auditors made a copy of their county’s census sheets for local use; some of those still exist and are held by the Washington State Archives. There are 996 names listed on this census. |
