Please note mother’s last name will be her maiden name. Learn about the documentation of birth records in Washington and what information is found in a birth register or birth return by selecting the tab that says "About this Collection” here The Washington Territorial Legislature created Klickitat County on December 20, 1859 from part of Skamania County. It was named after the Klickitat Native American tribe which lived in the area and means “beyond.” The county is located in the extreme south center of the state and is bounded on the south by the Columbia River.
