“On Jan 03, 1872 a girl was born to Wilbur and Amelia Bassett, in a little cabin on the north side of the river, near the present Post St. Bridge. She was the first All-white child born in Spokane Falls Territory. That year they all moved to farmland east of Granite Lake. They built a cabin next to a spring and a pond. On Jul 04, 1874 at the age of 2 yr 6mo. Minnie drowned in the pond. She was buried about 300 feet south of the house, on a rise in the field. Others were said to be buried there. The grave is now on the McMillan Ranch on Granite Lake Rd. The grave in closure can be seen from the road. “
