Notes from transcriber Maggie Rail, 1999-2009, last edited Mar 14, 2012:
“Milan Cemetery can be reached driving north on the Newport Highway (Hwy #2), just before the Riverside School, turn right or east onto Laurel Road and continue to the cemetery. The road winds around quite a bit in the 0.5 miles to the entrance of the cemetery.”
“This cemetery is in the Milan Cemetery District 5 of Spokane County WA. It is maintained by a board of volunteers who have made significant improvements on it. The cemetery is surrounded by a fence and well maintained. “
“This land was deeded by John L and his wife, Edna A Smith on Nov 11, 1898 with the stipulation as follows: "This plat of ground to be used only as a burying ground. Should it at any time be abandoned as such - it shall be returned to the owner of the Ranch." (copied from deed).”
“These records were first transcribed from the Sexton files of the Milan Cemetery, then in Oct of 2000 I walked the cemetery using a digital camera and transcribed all existing stones at that time. I returned in Sep of 2009 and again walked the cemetery using a digital camera.”
