| Introduction |
This series includes portions of or information from the King County Territorial Census as conducted by the County Assessor and reported to the County Auditor for the year of 1878. The volume is broken down by city or town and then alphabetically by last name.
Demographic information gathered during the census may include; name, age, gender, race, profession, marital status, place of birth, literacy, disability and whether either parent was foreign born. King County is located in the Puget Sound Region of Washington State. Notable census entries include Seattle pioneers; Thomas Mercer, Henry Yesler, W.B. Denny, William H. Shoudy, George F. Whitworth (founder of Whitworth College), William Grose (black pioneer) and Bailey Gatzert (only Jewish Seattle Mayor). All records are in English. These records are open for research. Digitized by the Washington State Archives Imaging and Preservation Services through a grant with the National Historical Records and Preservation Commission (NHPRC).
