| Introduction |
The Washington Territorial Legislature created Mason County on March 9, 1854. Originally named, Sawamish, after the local Indian tribe, the county’s name changed in 1864 to honor Charles Mason, the first Secretary of Washington Territory. There are 560 names listed on this census. |
