Notes from transcriber Maggie Rail, Feb 2, 2000, updated Jan 20, 2006:
“The Wood Memorial Cemetery is located about two miles south of Valleyford, WA, on Madison to Elder Road. Then about 1 1/2 mile west on Elder Road to about 1/4 mile west of Harris Road.”
“Wood cemetery is situated upon a hill overlooking farmland, which is a rather picturesque sight and quite peaceful. It is in SW 1/4 of Section 5, T23N, R44E in Spokane County. Plat Book E, 49-98, page 91, "Seal affixed April 27, 1906. Aka Valleyford Cemetery, Cottonwood Cemetery.”
“It is now under the jurisdiction of the county. Jim Growe maintains the cemetery and the records, with volunteer help from the neighborhood.”
“I first walked this cemetery, reading from the grave markers, using a notebook type recording, in July of 1998, most of which are the large upright type. In August of 2002 I decided to return with my camera. I have a digital photo of all that I could find. Some are not that good.”
“This cemetery is still in use, with many of those in it born in the late 1800's. I was unable to get lot numbers for most of the sites. First transcribed and compiled in 1998, second time 2002.”
